AWS (Amazon Web Services) has established itself as one of the world’s leading providers of cloud computing (cloud computing), offering its customers a robust platform with qualified services.

What is AWS?

In 2006, Amazon Web Services (AWS) began offering IT infrastructure services for companies through web services – now known as cloud computing. One of the key benefits of cloud computing is the opportunity to directly replace core infrastructure spending with low variable prices, which adjust according to your company. With the Cloud, companies no longer need to plan or purchase servers, as well as other IT infrastructures, weeks or months in advance. Instead, they can instantly run hundreds of thousands of servers in minutes and deliver results faster.

In a practical example, let’s consider a web portal that for only 7 days a month has access peaks 10 times greater than the normal flow of site visits (during the other 23 days of the month). In the traditional model, the portal manager would need to hire the infrastructure all month to support the peak during the 7 most critical days, leaving all the idle capacity in the other 23 days. In AWS it is possible only in the 7 days of peak to increase the computational capacity, reducing after the end of the peak. So the company will pay only what to use, regardless of the oscillations.

Computational

  • Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud): provides the computing power itself (processing, memory, etc.), ie, instances (servers) cloud. It allows the use of various operating systems, as well as varying resource sizes, according to customer demand.

  • Amazon EMR (Elastic MapReduce): allows companies to process large amounts of data, with practicality and economy, using the Amazon EC2 and Amazon S3 infrastructure. • Amazon ELB (Elastic Load Balancing): load balancing between Amazon EC2 instances, extremely useful for applications that require redundancy and that the required computational capacity is more than one instance, such as sites with high flow of visitors.

Storage

  • Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service): provides storage of large volumes of data in a simple and intuitive way, through a web interface. It can be integrated with Amazon EC2 and other features in providing data for web applications, backup storage and others.

  • Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store) : Provides block volumes to Amazon EC2 instance, in a simplified way, are the disks of the servers of Amazon EC2.

  • AWS Storage Gateway provides a local storage device connection interface in the company (usually a storage) to cloud storage.

Network

  • Amazon VPC (Virtual Private Cloud): enables companies to manage a private cloud, and create a connection between this private cloud and your local network, or your external data center, making the cloud an extension of the enterprise network.

  • Amazon Route 53: DNS service extremely robust and redundant, with useful features for AWS customers, integrating with other services (such as Amazon ELB) also has specific features such as routing based on lower latency.

Database

  • Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service): service that provides relational database (Oracle or MySQL). In addition to the ease of installation and configuration, the entire concern for updating the database is at the expense of AWS.

  • Amazon DynamoDB : database NoSQL service with full management.

  • Amazon SimpleDB: extremely robust database service, reliable and non – relational.

  • Amazon ElastiCache: offers a caching service in the cloud, facilitating and optimizing the use of memory caching of web applications, improving performance and scalability.
